Baildon Golf Club

The soul of Baildon Golf Club was shaped by the “Grand Old Man of Golf,” Old Tom Morris. A four-time Open Championship winner (1861, 1862, 1864, and 1867), Morris was the premier architect of his era. In 1893, he arrived at Baildon Moor to supervise the extension of the original layout into a full 18-hole course, creating a rugged masterpiece that remains a challenge to this day.

Walking these fairways today is a walk through history; you are playing on a canvas designed by the same man responsible for the iconic layouts at St Andrews and Muirfield. The natural moorland terrain he championed remains the hallmark of the Baildon experience.

A Legacy in Every Swing

Our history is best captured by the 1901 Club Championship image featured in our hero section. Depicting the very first Club Cup—a trophy still contested today—it represents a bridge between the Victorian pioneers and the modern golfers who tackle our challenging “bell pits” and the famous par-3 second hole.

This rich history is why, since 2004, Baildon Golf Club has served as the home for the International Golf Membership (IGM). By providing official WHS handicaps and a “home club” base for members worldwide, Baildon continues its tradition as a club without borders, welcoming the global community into its historic fold.

A Personal Connection

For me, this golf course is more than just a piece of golf history. it is where my journey began. I first stepped onto these moors as a boy in 1976. The unique challenges of Baildon didn’t just teach me how to play, they shaped my career as a PGA Professional and eventually led to my role as CEO of International Golf Membership.
